The Great Frank Lloyd Wright

The first full weekend I was in DC, Memorial Weekend, (Elena didn't come until the next week) I actually didn't spend it in DC. My amazing aunt and uncle took us (my cousin and I) to Pennsylvania to see some buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright. One of them was his famous Falling Water, and the other, Kentuck Knob (only 7 miles from Falling Water). We made a weekend of it and it was wonderful!

It was a 4 hour drive to the Ohiopyle National Park, where Falling Water and Kentuck Knob are. It was a beautiful drive through the "mountains" of Virginia. We spent the first day at Falling Water and then drove to little "down home" bbq place that was fantastic! We spent that night at a hotel, spending a couple hours at the pool with my cousin and uncle! It was a blast. The next day we got up and headed to Kentuck Knob and the sculpture garden that was around it. Both houses were outstanding and something so advanced for the time period, 1930's. Every architects dream is to see these houses!

After seeing Kentuck Knob, we headed back to my aunt and uncle's house, where I live for the first 2 weeks I was here and just relaxed. Monday, Memorial Day, was spent going to the movies and then laying on the couch, sick, sick, sick. My uncle, cousin and I were all sick. We had pounding headaches, flu like pains, and a fever. Not something you would expect when it is 90+ degrees outside! After a little thought, we decided it was from the pool at the hotel, as my aunt was the only person that didn't swim and didn't get sick. We are geniuses for figuring that one out, I know!

My cousin ended up being in bed 3 days in a row, while my uncle and I trekked to work! :( It wasn't a fun way to start my second week at a new job, that is for sure! The only good thing about that day was that Elena came and we got to move into our apartment. I'll leave the details of that for my next blog. :)

Below are some of the may pictures from the trip to PA! And also the Pope-Leighey House by Frank Lloyd Wright, only 3 miles from my aunt and uncle's house!
